The Spiritual and Practical Benefits of the Five Daily Prayers

Salah is an Arabic word that means “worship”, a major act of worship that is obligatory on every Muslim. Salah is the 2nd pillar of Islam that needs to perform five times a day. Salah or prayer is a practical sign of obedience to the commands of Allah Almighty, the proof of our faith in Allah (SWT) and religion Islam. Salah is a source of direct communication with Almighty Allah. Moreover, it also refrains a person from evil deeds and bad habits. There are five daily prayers Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha that need to perform daily at their specified times.

The establishment of Salah is one of the major topics upon which Allah (SWT) in the Holy Quran has emphasized more than anything else. One’s success lies in the five daily prayers.

The Holy Prophet (SAW) said:
“The first of his deeds for which a man will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection will be the prayers. If it is found to be perfect, he will be safe and successful. But if it is defective, he will be unfortunate and a loser.”

Life-Changing Benefits of Prayer Every Muslim Should Know

Sūrat al-Mā’idah Ayah Number: 33

Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment,

1. Fajr Prayer Benefits

“So establish the Prayer after the declining of the sun (from its zenith, for Dhuhr and then ASR) to the dusk of the night (Maghrib and then ‘Isha) and the (Quranic) recitation of Fajr [prayer]. Indeed, the (Quranic) recitation of Fajr is witnessed.”

Protection and Blessings

Among numerous Fajr prayer benefits, protection from Shaitan is one of them. Starting the day with this prayer, the believer is surrounded by divine care for the whole day, protecting them from harm and guiding them.

The below Hadith explains the importance of having Allah’s protection with the help of Fajr prayer.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Whoever offers the Morning Prayer, he is under the protection of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime”

2. Zuhar Prayer Benefits

Zuhr helps people take time out from their work and reflect spiritually and mentally with the help of prayer. It also helps them seek guidance from the almighty Allah. Additionally, one can get lazy after the day’s meal; hence the prayer assists one in stretching and become active.

Imam Bukhari, Aisha (R.A) reported, “The Prophet never left praying four rakats before Zuhr and two rakats before Fajr Salah under any circumstances.”

Praying is an important part of Islam. Its purpose is to purify the soul and clear the mind of the worldly clutter in order to focus on Allah. It is the time when Muslims leave everything else behind to connect with their God.

3. Asar Prayer Benefits

The rewards any Muslim receives for performing Asr on time are not just limited to this world. Allah has promised sufficient blessings in the afterlife too. Narrated by Abu Huraira:

“Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you [or stayed with you] ascend [to Heaven] and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you well, ‘In what state did you leave my slaves?’ The angels reply: ‘When we left them, they were praying and when we reached them, they were praying.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 555).

This shows Allah has given a special status to Asr because the angels themselves are witnessing it. Insha’Allah, consistently offering Asr prayers will guarantee success in the hereafter.

4. Maghrib Prayer Benefits

The Maghrib prayer is unique among the five daily prayers prescribed by Islam; the word ‘Maghrib’ directly translates to ‘sunset’ in Arabic.

This Salat is important because it is traditionally observed immediately after sunset, symbolizing gratitude for the day’s blessings and providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection during nature’s peaceful transition from day to night.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said that:

“Whoever persists in praying twelve rak’ahs each day and night, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will build for him a house in Paradise: Four before Zuhr and two after Zuhr, two rak’ahs after Maghrib, two rak’ahs after Isha’ and two rak’ahs of Fajr.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i 1795)

5. Isha Prayer Benefits

Isha prayer is extremely important in Islam because it is a time of deep spiritual connection and devotion to Allah SWT.

Offering Isha prayer regularly has numerous spiritual benefits. Individuals can strengthen their connection with the Creator and deepen their faith by participating in this sacred ritual.

By setting aside time each night to communicate with Allah SWT, believers can find peace, tranquillity, and inner fulfillment. Isha prayer is also used to seek forgiveness for sins and to cleanse the heart of negative emotions.

It provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and personal growth.

Furthermore, performing Isha prayer regularly helps believers develop discipline and devotion to their religious obligations, fostering a stronger relationship with Allah SWT.

Importance as per

In numerous verses, the Quran, Islam’s holy book, emphasizes the significance of Isha prayer. Here is a verse from Surah Isra:

اَقِمِ الصَّلٰوةَ لِدُلُوۡكِ الشَّمۡسِ اِلٰى غَسَقِ الَّيۡلِ وَقُرۡاٰنَ الۡـفَجۡرِؕ اِنَّ قُرۡاٰنَ الۡـفَجۡرِ كَانَ مَشۡهُوۡدًا‏

Establish Prayer from the declining of the sun to the darkness of the night; and hold fast to the recitation of the Qur’an at dawn, for the recitation of the Qur’an at dawn is witnessed.95 (17:78)

By following this divine instruction, Muslims seek Allah SWT’s guidance and mercy while demonstrating their faith. Isha prayer reaffirms a Muslim’s devotion, bringing solace and peace through spiritual connection with their Creator.

In essence, these nightly acts serve as a manifestation of obedience to Islamic teachings highlighted in various Quranic verses, as well as an act of worship.
